Riders celebrate World Environment Day

The Kenya Motor Sports Federation and the East African Motor Sports Club organized a fun race at the Jamhuri Motocross where more than 50 motocross riders, their families and general public joined to celebrate the World Environment Day (WED) 2013. The Fun Race which was organized in the form of Relay was a great fun for the riders and the spectators. The riders raced in teams comprising of different racing classes and age groups. The riders came up with environment related names such as Photosynthesis, Emission, and H2O for their teams. The junior riders felt very privileged to team up with the big motocross names in Kenya and indeed they made a substantive contribution to their teams’ success.

To promote the important link between the sport and the environment, the event’s participants took part in a Clean-up activity. Several bags of litter were collected from the Jamhuri Track area and its surroundings reminding the riders, their families and the general public to be more mindful in collecting the waste in future events. The WED 2013 theme Think-Eat-Save was an eye opener to many as facts and figures were shared while the riders were enjoying their picnics as well as through the different speeches. There were constant reminders on how small pledges and changes in behavior can make a big difference in reducing the food wastage.
