Don't be Excessive

As part of the ongoing two-month campaign against food wastage titled, ‘LA THUSRIFU’ the Arabic Word which means “DON’T BE EXCESSIVE” Focus International Kuwait held a Paint on Canvas program inviting various artists from different parts of Kuwait .The paintings were on the subject of food wastage and saving the planet by reducing our global food print.The program was held at Lu&Lu Hypermarket, Al Rai Kuwait.

Focus International Kuwait team mentioned that they are inspired by the United Nations Environment Programme, and is following the guidelines of UNEP , Think Eat Save campaign. This Open Canvas program illustrated the thoughtful theme of reducing food wastage and food print through commercial videos and statistics on wastage in different developed nations.


At the event, the Director of IPC, Eng. Abdul Azeez Al Duwaij, stressed on the importance of the subject in the modern world and appreciated the efforts taken by the youth organization .The event was inaugurated by PARTS Kuwait President Mr. Sunil Pookode.  The Focus Chairperson Abdul Rahman in his welcome address stated that the recent statistics shows that the One in eight people around the world is chronically undernourished and gives clear warning to the world leaders that some regions would fail in halving the number of hungry by 2015. The vast majority of people suffering hunger, or 827 million, live in developing countries, where the prevalence of undernourishment is estimated at 14.3 percent.

Focus volunteers were divided into teams put their full effort in distributing pamphlets and to provide awareness among the public about the wastage of food and tips were given how to avoid / mitigate the food wastage.  The artists were gifted with mementos for their efforts and thanked by the event partner; Lu&Lu Hypermarket .The event was made a success by the active participation of different social and cultural organizations of Kuwait.

The campaign, “La thusrifu “was officially inaugurated at Masjidul Kabeer, Kuwait on September 06, 2013. The campaign duration is two months which will end in the first week of November with a youth summit.  The next public awareness program against food wastage is scheduled to conduct at Geant Hypermarket, 360 Degree mall on Friday 11th October 2013. An eco-senate, door to door campaign and Painting competition for school students, Left over Food Recipe competition for ladies, photo gallery exhibition are the remaining programs of this campaign.
