Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt presented the Social Democrat Executive Committee Meeting 7 January Socialists' environmental award Auken Prize for Selina Juul, founder of the consumer movement Stop Wasting Food, for her work on food waste.
The price was already assigned Selina Juul of the Social Democratic Party congress in the autumn when Selina unfortunately could not be present. Stop Wasting Food, which began in 2008 as a facebook group is quickly grown into the largest voluntary movement against food waste that has really put food waste on the agenda of the people, the media, industry and retailers, as well as in the EU and the UN.
The Social Democrats are the party that gives the consumer movement Stop Wasting Food strongest support, and both current and former ministers actively promotes the matter. For example, the Food Minister Dan Jorgensen to Stop Wasting Food Homeless Action, where 80 pallets good surplus food and cases with a value of approx. 500,000 was saved from becoming food waste - and came homeless for good.
The 10,000 kr from Auken Prize, along with 350,000 kr from the Nordic Council Nature and Environment Prize, as Selina Juul received in 2013 will be used to establish a new Homeless Project: A fixed system where local food businesses, shops, bakers, Others easily donate good, free overskudmad to local shelters, shelters, women's shelters, etc. The project is already taking shape.
